PBA of NYS Applauds Sen. Gillibrand’s Combatting Sexual Assaults on University Campuses

Tuesday, May 27, 2014

Press release issued today:

The Police Benevolent Association of New York State (PBA of NYS), the police union representing State University Police Officers on 28 State University campuses, today commended U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand for her leadership in fighting sexual assaults on college campuses.

In making a case for greater enforcement, Sen. Gillibrand noted the many instances of unreported and underreporting of sex crimes and other offenses on campuses, leading to fewer occasions when sex offenders are brought to justice.

“Just as Sen. Gillibrand continues to seek protections for women in the military, she is raising her voice on this important issue affecting our nation’s female college students,” said PBA of NYS Executive Director Dan De Federicis.  “Our State University Police officers are encouraged that the senator has become such a powerful ally in the fight against sexual assaults on college campuses.”

The PBA of New York State is the exclusive bargaining agent for the New York State University (SUNY) Police, the New York State Environmental Conservation Police, the New York State Park Police, and the New York State Forest Rangers.  Our members police and protect New York State’s public universities and colleges; state parks and historic sites; and they enforce state laws and protect our lands and forests and ensure environmental safety and quality throughout the state.
