Passing of Retired UPD Member

The PBA regretfully informs the membership of the death of retired PBA member Mike Sodders over the weekend.
Mike was a UPD member at both SUNY New Paltz and SUNY Maritime, retiring in 2018. He was a respected leader at his department, an active union member and was instrumental in getting UPD the 25 year retirement option, successfully lobbying the legislature during Governor Pataki’s 3rd term, unfortunately, to have it vetoed by him. Mike’s participation in this was rewarded when Governor Cuomo signed the bill in 2015.
Mike Sodders was respected and appreciated by his fellow members, and he always made a presence to let you know he was there by your side. Off duty, he had a joy for flying and had much pride in being a plane owner/operator. He attended every barbecue, get together and life event he could. He was always there for his family, friends and coworkers. This is such sad news about a great guy. May Mike Sodders rest in peace.
Funeral service arrangements are unknown at this time, but we will post them on the PBA web site when available.
