Forest Rangers’ Crucial Role in upstate New York Search and Rescues

Friday, July 14, 2017

The Albany Times Union wrote a lengthy article this week about several recent drownings in upstate New York and the New York State Forest Rangers’ crucial roles in each of the searches.  The article also went in depth into rescues of lost and distressed people made by several Forest Rangers in the Adirondack mountains as well as other areas of the state.

We are saddened by the deaths of the drowning victims, which the DEC press release pointed out failed to take basic safety precautions such as wearing personal flotation devices.

We are certainly pleased, however, with the several successful outcomes our Forest Rangers had in locating lost and/or distressed people on hiking trails and elsewhere. This article shows how crucial our New York State Forest Rangers are in safeguarding New York State’s residents and visitors from several different situations.
