Members will recommend merging Park Police with the State Police, hosting additional police academies, purchasing new vehicles and upgrading equipment. The Police Benevolent Association of New York State Law Enforcement (PBA of NYS) today will testify before the Joint Committee on Environmental Conservation. Three PBA of NYS members will represent three of four PBA of NYS units at the hearing.

PBA Environmental Conservation Officer Superior Officers Director John Burke, Vice President and Park Police Sergeants Director Manny Vilar, and Secretary and Forest Rangers Superior Officers Director Drew Cavanagh will all be testifying this evening (Monday, February 13, 2017) before a joint committee of the NYS Senate and Assembly regarding the New York State Executive Budget as it applies to environmental issues including the DEC and Parks budgets for 2017-2018.

The Albany Times Union newspaper editorial board issued a strongly-worded editorial today assailing the State University of New York’s “fast and loose” handling of 211 pension waivers alleging that the University system’s application of the law is “routinely bent, if not broken, for their benefit.”

The PBA of NYS is praising the work of 11 Department of Environmental Conservation forest rangers for their work in rescuing two injury victims this weekend – a female, 26, who slid and fell a total of 80 feet and a male, 25, who fell while ice climbing.

There can no more joyful Christmas than in the Niskayuna homes of the two young hikers rescued in good condition after two frigid days and nights from the windblown snowy brow of Algonquin Peak in the Adirondacks.
The pair, Madison "Maddie" Popolizio, 19, and Blake Alois, 20, were astoundingly lucky. The situation they put themselves in had tragedy written all over it.

STATEMENT FROM PETER BARRY, PRESIDENT OF THE PBA OF NEW YORK STATE REGARDING THE COLUMBIA COUNTY INCIDENT RESULTING IN THE INJURY OF AN ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION OFFICER.
Late on Tuesday afternoon, James Davey a member of the PBA of New York State, and an on-duty Environmental Conservation officer in Columbia County, suffered a gunshot wound stemming from an investigation of shots fired in the area.
