The president of the PBA of New York State today will testify before the Joint Budget Hearing on the 2014-15 state budget.  He will be asking lawmakers to support the Governor’s efforts to adequately staff law enforcement agencies and to help replace old, unreliable vehicles as well as asking them to augment the Executive budget by offering additional resources for necessary equipment.

Police Officer Gary Barreira, a 21 year vetaran with the New York State Park Police, a husband and a father needs your help.  Last year Officer Barreira was a victum of a hit and run. While being treated he was diagnosed with cancer.  Due to the cost of treatments and hopsitalizations, the family is having financal difficutly.

For those of you that were not able to view Department of Environmental Conservation Police Investigator Cynthia Harcher’s testimony, given on behalf of the PBA, at a legislative hearing yesterday, you should know that the Assembly is broadcasting the hearing in its entirety right now.  This hearing was to examine the effectiveness of New York’s restrictions on the sale of ivory; as you know the desire for ivory on the black market has caused the slaughter of thousands of African elephants each year and they are severely endangered.

The PBA extends our deepest condolences to the family of Trooper David Cunniff

New York State Trooper David Cunniff tragically died today after his State Police vehicle was struck by a truck on the New York State Thruway last night. 

Trooper Cunniff leaves a wife and two sons, ages 4 and 6.
