20th Annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony

Forest Ranger Raymond L. Murray, along with 117 firefighters killed in the line of duty, was added to the Fallen Firefighters Memorial at a ceremony outside the state Capitol in Albany yesterday. Of the 118 deceased firefighters, 114 of them died as a result of the 9/11 injuries and illnesses. The Memorial now has 2,524 names of the New York firefighters who died in the line of duty after it was dedicated in 1998.

Deepest Condolences to the Family and Friends of Slain Officer Floyd East Jr.

The PBA extends our deepest condolences to the family of slain Texas Tech University Police Officer Floyd East Jr as well as the entire Texas Tech University Police Department. Officer East, a married father of two daughters, was shot by a defendant who pulled a gun when he was at the station being processed on a drug investigation. This tragedy shows just how dangerous University Policing has become, as a number of University Police officers around the country made the ultimate sacrifice in recent years. Funeral arrangements to follow once we have them.

Environmental Conservation Police Expand New York City Enforcement Initiative

A recently announced detail will soon bring an additional police presence to the New York City transit system according to the PBA of New York State, the organization representing hundreds of Department of Environmental Conservation police. Beginning on October 9, and for a period of at least 30 days, officers will be working extended shifts of up to 12 hours each according to the PBA.
