PBA of New York State Congratulates UAlbany PD Award and Recognition Recipients

Inv. Ben Nagy is chosen the 2016 Lawrence Gaal Officer of the Year; 23 others recognized. The PBA of New State Law Enforcement officials congratulated members of University at Albany Police Department who received internal awards for service, including Inv. Ben Nagy, who was named the 2016 Lawrence Gaal Officer of the Year Award. Nagy was honored for his thoroughness, professionalism, team approach, and for his lead investigator role on many high-profile cases, including the CDTA bus incident last spring. The case involved false claims of racial harassment on a CDTA bus.

The PBA of New York State Issues Back-to-College Safety Message

The law enforcement union representing State University Police officers is urging students to heed the messages of safety they’ve received from school officials and PBA members as they settle in for the 2015-16 school year. Becoming a crime victim can sometimes be avoided or minimized by practicing behaviors that help reduce risk. This applies to students living on campus and in off-campus neighborhoods.

A Press Release from The PBA of NYS Acknowledges the Work of NYS Park Police Officers on Long Island

Editor’s Note: At 10:40 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 23, NYS Park Police Officers patrolling on foot were nearly struck by a car while working the Barclay’s PGA golf tournament at Bethpage State Park while observing a female driving erratically. After a brief vehicle pursuit, officers pulled the car over and determined the driver to be impaired on a substance other than alcohol. Two children between 4 and 8 years old were in the car at the time. Under New York’s Leandra’s Law, it is a felony to drive impaired with a child under the age of 15 in the vehicle.
