SUNY Stony Brook University Perform a Leandra’s Law Violation Arrest

On Easter Sunday the New York State University Police located at Stony Brook University arrested and charged a Patchogue man with two counts of Leandra's Law violations for driving while impaired by drugs with his seven and one year old children in the car.

Daniel Henthorne, was observed by witnesses driving a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu erratically on Nicolls Road Northbound when his vehicle struck the center median guard wire. Henthorne continued to drive his vehicle through the center median and began to drive northbound in the southbound lanes of travel.

State University Police Officers located the vehicle leaking a significant amount of gasoline near Stony Brook University Hospital where it was determined that Henthorne was impaired by drugs.

Henthorne was charged with two counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child under 15, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, driving while impaired by drugs, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Henthorne was arraigned at Suffolk County First District Court in Central Islip.

Henthorne's children were briefly evaluated at Stony Brook University Hospital where it was determined that they had not been injured in the accident.

The vehicle had to be towed from scene and was impounded by the University Police.
