Mobile Billboard Criticizing SUNY New Paltz Police Department Will Operate for a Second Day

Wednesday, March 15, 2017

The union representing State University Police statewide has authorized the use of a mobile billboard for a second day in protest of what the union says is departmental mismanagement by New Paltz Police Chief David Dugatkin and Deputy Chief Mary Ritayik.

A mobile billboard service provider operated the 20-foot sign on Friday, wending through the campus and village, drawing the attention of students, staff, visitors and university officials.

It will be in operation Saturday as the university holds tours for prospective students.

University Police officers, who are members of the Police Benevolent Association of New York State Law Enforcement (PBA of NYS), are asserting that years of mismanagement, selective enforcement of policies, and inappropriate comments and behavior has resulted in a hostile work environment, high attrition rates and overall departmental dysfunction.
