Both the Assembly and Senate one-house budget bills provide funding that would give the SUNY police the option of transferring from the state Employees Retirees System into the state Police & Fire Retirement System, according to the state Police Benevolent Association, the union that represents campus police. University police are the only law enforcement officers not covered by the P&F, says NYS PBA, which encourages SUNY police, once trained, to switch to law enforcement agencies that are part of P&F, which allows for earlier retirement.
